WHAT IS STANDARDIZATION?

Standardization is the process of developing, disseminating and applying technical standards for the solution or prevention of problems, with the participation of all interested parties, for the promotion of the global economy.

Technical standards establish requirements for quality, performance, safety, but they can also establish procedures, standardize shapes, dimensions, types and uses, fix classifications or terminologies and glossaries, define the way to measure or determine characteristics, such as test methods.

In Brazil, the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) manages the standards.

Standardization levels:

International, Regional, National and Business

Benefits:

Economy, Communication, Security, Simplification, Consumer Protection, Sustainable Development and Elimination of technical and commercial barriers.

Regarding the benefits provided by standardization, ABNT highlights that it "is increasingly used as a means to achieve a reduction in the cost of production and the final product, maintaining or improving its quality", thus increasing the competitiveness of companies that have their processes and systems normalized.
